gonna = going to, Note that in the interrogative, are is omitted in second person singular and first and second person plural – What we gonna do now? (= What are we going to do now?) / We’re gonna carry on and try and get there before dark.

gotta = [have] got to, You gotta / You’ve gotta get changed right away. The match starts in five minutes.

wanna = want to, Wanna can be used with all persons singular and plural, except third person singular (not with he/she wants to ) – What you wanna do now? (Instead of: What do you want to do now?)

a wannabee derives originally from the US, but is now used extensively in British English. A wannabee (literally a want-to-be) is someone who is trying to copy somebody else. Usually the person they are trying to copy is somebody famous. ( Scores of Britney Spears wannabees raided the shops where she had bought her latest outfit.)

gotcha = got you,
lemme = let me, letcha = let you,
outa = out of,
c’mon = come on,
ya = you,
yeah/yep = yes,
nope/naa = no,
betcha = bet you,
kinda = kind of,
lotsa = lots of,
lotta = lot of,
helluva = hell of a,
a = going to (i’m a = i’m going to)

ain’t = is not – Note, though, that “ain’t” isn’t limited to “is not”. Like gonna, gotta, wanna, it can be used with any person. – I ain’t, you ain’t, he ain’t, etc.

There are also Britishisms:
Cuppa = cup of tea
Pinta = pint of milk
Dunno = don’t know

i.e. = id est – “т.е.” – When you mean “that is,” use “i.e.” – If you can replace “i.e.” with “in other words” then you are using it correctly. “I.e.” is used to specify what your are trying to convey. For example: We will have caramel corn, roasted pumpkin seeds, witches’ brew and ghost cookies on this spooky night, i.e., Halloween.

e.g. = exempli gratia – “к пpимеpу” – Simply replace “e.g.” with “for example” to check your usage. For example: I love to read a variety of genres, e.g., historical non-fiction, mystery and poetry.

Remember:
- Use a comma after the abbreviations.
- Use a comma before the abbreviations unless it’s the beginning of a sentence

viz = videlicit – “а именно”
etc. = &c. = et cetera – “и так далее” – Hе нужно писать “and etc.”, так как and (“et”) уже есть в фpазе. В списке, etc пpедваpяется запятой; но, если сам пеpечисляемый pяд пpедметов содеpжит единичный пpедмет, тогда запятую можно (как пpавило, нужно) опустить.

1) дата и вpемя:
A.D. = anno Domini (in the year of the Lord) – после P.Х.
B.C. = before Christ – до P.Х., но:
C.E. = Common Era – н.э.
B.C.E. = before the Common Era – до н.э.

circa = около, приблизительно

a.m. = ante meridiem – до полудня
p.m. = post meridiem – после полудня

NB! Hе надо писать “and etc.”, так как and (“et”) уже включен во фpазу. В списке etc пpедваpяется запятой; впpочем, если сам пеpечисляемый pяд пpедметов содеpжит собственно единичный пpедмет, тогда запятую можно (как пpавило, нужно) опустить – “shells etc.”

et al. =
1) et alii – “и дpугие”. Пpименимо, как пpавило, к людям.
2) et alibi = and elsewhere (pедк.)

NB – nota bene, “заметь”. Ставится пеpед pемаpками

Cost – имеет то же значение, но в основном используется, когда говорится не о предметах, а об услугах: the cost of having the house painted или об общих понятиях: the cost of living/the cost of food.

Глагол cost может использоваться с личным местоимением в объектном падеже – it cost him/me/her. How much did this watch cost you?

Глагол charge также может использоваться с личным местоимением в объектном падеже: How much did he charge you for repairing the car?

Существительное charge означает сумму денег, обычно требуемую за разрешение что-то сделать: There willbe a small charge for admission to the museum.

To tell a lie — солгать

To lie (lied) — лгать, обманывать

You are lying! — Вы лжете.

To lie to somebody — лгать кому-то

To lie like a gas meter — врать как сивый мерин

To lie (lay, lain) — лежать НЕПЕРЕХОДНЫЙ

To lie still — лежать неподвижно

To lie low — притаиться, скрываться

To lay (laid) — класть, положить ПЕРЕХОДНЫЙ

He laid his head on the pillow — он положил голову на подушку.

Lay back — расслабиться

Have got to — означает «должен». Опять же, американцы предпочитают использовать have to, и, в отличие от англичан, не различают «привычную необходимость» (I have to wear special shoes.) и «кратковременную необходимость» (I’ve got to go now). Обычная форма вопроса в American English в данной ситуации будет  Do you have to?, а в British English — Have you got to?
